It did work! Used a slightly longer plug to get me to the garage!

Its good to hear that I am not the only one that is completely paranoid about the bonnet flying up, and suddenly all you can see is White (Or whatever colour your bonnet is)! It has now become completely irrational, it has never happened to me, and my bonnet catch is adjusted perfectly.....but whenever it gets a bit windy I get really nervous about it. Silly isn't it? Well, at least it is a fear that prompts you to add a nice looking accessory to the front of your car!

quick question... Why do i see alot of 2cv pictures with bungeeeeees across the bonnet? What is the reason?

People not being bothered to adjust the striker plate properly - so without the bungee the bonnet could fly open at speed. IMO bungees look good on rough and tough cars like 4x4s but embarrassing on normal 2cvs - it's like saying the cars are so rubbish their bonnets won't even stay shut!

I had the bonnet of my first 2cv open on the motorway - half way round the sliproad joining the M25 anti-clock to the M1 heading north...

...and it just sort of "hovered" half-way up, then closed when I braked. No damage to anything but my undies.

aha, bless you adrian! i've had the wobbly bonnet experience once or twice, especially when you go past a lorry and the whole thing wobbles side to side, then i get abit worried! on shorter journeys i dont put one on but for longer journeys when im spending a few hours on the motorways, i have one! and its a nice green one :) that matches nothing on my car!

I had a bonnet come up on an 850 mini, I was late for work and couldn't get it to shut again, so carried on Ace Ventura style. It's a bit of a shock if you don't see it coming, just hope your bonnet hinge isn't shot otherwise you'll possibly lose the whole thing!

I had the bonnet come up on a GSA (at about 80mph) the day after I'd had the N/S/F inner wheel arch welded. Guess who didn't shut the bonnet properly?

I also had the bonnet come up on what is now Brian Damageds Dyane hence it wears a belt accross the bonnet. 8-)

Luckily, I've never had a bonnet flip over when driving on the public highway, but it happened when testing a racer at the Mintex test track near here.
We'd spent a couple of hours running up and down the 1 mile straight, fine tuning the mixture & timing and were ready to load it onto the trailer when the owner suggested that I might like a drive.

I was flat out in top gear when the bonnet went over, with the impact on the metal roof popping the plastic windows out of the rear doors.

The bonnet didn't look too pretty either, but the windscreen survived...

ken.

My bonnet was opened at the 24 hr race for some reason.. and no one did up my bonnet clips at the sides of my bonnet... the bonnet lifted 1/2 way up , twisted and caught on the headlight.. it is now sporting a rip bigger than before at the hinge... was bloody frightening as me and Am were going some to get back to cook foodies (passing a lorry at the time) ... and my language was a bit unlady like when l got back to base...

Its frightening and buttox clenching ..
