I bow to your superior knowledge and practicality! I'll have a look at lunchtime as I've got to head out and do a site visit to Mytholmroyd (hence bringing in car and not commuting on the m/bike as usual).

Jono and Pete,
did someone mention earlier that it's got a 2CV engine fitted?

If that is the case and the complete 2CV lump was dropped in, is it possible that a later 18/26 carb is still fitted, which would be running too lean once the Dyane's 'blower' was hooked up?

Assuming that the valve clearances and timing have already been checked (and adjusted if necessary? ) re-jetting could help improve matters further...

(Don't forget that thrashing an engine isn't always the answer and can be counter productive, especially if there's an underlying problem. ;) )

Hi there. It's not got the Dyane blower hooked up actually, so the jetting should be OK.

As I mentioned to Pete when he picked the car up, I'd not got around to looking at the tappets. They ought to be checked out (and I'll help you/do it for you Pete if you want - but obviously not until after I'm back from CZ).

In case anybody is wondering, it doesn't pink at all.

If I haven't checked the tappets by the time you get back then I might take you up on that.

Next/First job if this rain keeps up is going to be trying to stem the ingress of water a bit.

Pete,
maybe just open the bonnet and have a look at the offside of the carb body?
If the embossed numbers are 21 & 24, it's the original Dyane carb, but if they're 18 & 26, then it's the later model. ;)

It's the latter, 26 and 18. As Jono said it's easing up a bit now with a touch of enthusiastic driving. I sprayed some chain wax (I'm a biker too) down the wiper spindles and that seemed to stem the ingress of water a touch so it looks like it might be the spindles that are shot, I'll have to get some from ecas at some point and swap them over.

Whoops, In my stupidity I was winding up a colleague who's mirrors don't angle down far enough to let her see the road, when as I tilted the mirror down it suddenly gave way! buggerino, one half of the ball joint disintigrated! Unfortunately it's the drivers side so I've squeezed the Dyane in next to Dexy and I'll use the m/bike for the next few days until I can bring myself to take a trip to Sowerby Bridge and part with £20.

That had a slightly odd driver's side mirror on it, didn't it?

I *might* have a spare normal one in the garage (but I'm not sure, as I might have sold it at Registers Day). I'll have a gander, and if it's there it's yours if you want it.

Yeah the mount looks a little bit different. If you've got one that'd be grand, if not I'm going to have to venture up to 2cvtown and purchase one.

I've not had chance to have a look today, and I'm going out soon, but I will have a look tomorrow.

Yep, I found one. Shall I take it to the International for you?
