I did find a set of original white plastic Gala wheel rings from the 60's today in Belgium. They are very rare because they are very fragile. Condition is rather good apart from 2 small cracks caused by the vendor who put something on top of them....but its repairable i think.. :D
Original they were on the 2cv export and on some ami's.

Fixed my dead fuel gauge, which has been giving random readings got sometime. The gauge responded to the short yo earth, so l knew that was OK. I dropped tank and removed the sender unit. A quick test with my multi-meter showed no response at all.
I noted the connection to earth was a crimped joint, this was iffy do l soldered in a small piece of thin copper to ensure the joint was good.

Then opened up opened up the business end of the unit, the wiper arm was worn away to s hole, another thin bit of copper was soldered in there. The resistance changed smoothly, when tested with the probes on the wiper arm and the connection to the gauge feed, but there was no continuity from the earth tag. I took a much closer look at inside the sender, where saw a small piece of brass riveted to the metal body, it was obvious gist something had broken off and due to it's location I was sure it must have completed the connection from the wiper arm to earth. l soldered a short light of stripped wire to a screw type connector and the other end to the riveted brass. The connector tag as then placed under the float pivot do making the circuit, to ensure good continuity l soldered the float arm to where it clipped on the wiper arm.

The result is now a fully working fuel gauge, which swings nicely to and fro for a short time when you stop, as the fuel sloshes about. The repair might not look pretty but it works fine. Oddly as l was clearing up l found a 'C' shaped bit of brass that had broken off from the sender.

Dropped it off at Peter Cross' in Tibberton, Worcs, last night. He's stripped, cleaned and reassembled the rear brakes as I was getting a lot of imbalance, crap efficiency and also noisy brakes. Just collected the car and the brakes all round are perfect. In fact, I can't remember ever having the brakes as good as they are now, on this particular 2CV. Well chuffed.

Helped a friend adjusting his valve clearances. When we took the rocker covers off we did see the joints were only sealing about 1mm wide. I thought it was strange but when we removed the old ones we found the cause, another set of old joint glued to the covers under the first set. They were really dead. They came out in 1 cm wide parts brittle like bakelite...Nice. He was lucky they didn't fail during several trips of this car to france and back...
