Thanx one and all for my Delilah sig! I know it's a D*lly, but as a 2CV virgin, I didn't realise the shameful stigma attached to them.... At least the Goat's is a Mofo Dulux and roller spesh, with handpainted artwork and pinstriping, not off a roll! Bx

Ha don't worry Becky, wollies are just as worthy, there's just a few of us who would rather not be seen in one, and anyway, your car is lovely! You need to get some pictures of the Goats amazing multicolour swap shop up here!

AFAI recall, this 'stigma' arose as a result of an influx of new 2CV drivers into 2CVGB in the late 1980s. Many of these had bought Charlestons and the new "D*lly" which was originally a limited run in the "grey+1colour" scheme, and actually rather nice I always thought. The non-limited (although at the time implied by Citroen as a limited edition) green/white and red/white quickly arrived on the scene as did many more new 2CV drivers. The hardline 2CVGBers of the time were (understandably!) pissed off at the new influx calling their cars and a few that were not, "wollies". The term "D*lly Wally" was coined by the High Priests of UDAC to describe them, and at the time they chuffing well had a point. The stigma has never really quite been forgotten.... Certainly if you look through the ECAS site there are references to "D*lly owners may not appreciate the crude construction of this item" etc! I remember once nearly chinning someone in 1990 or thereabouts when they implied I might be a D*lly Wally because of my ownersip of a then recent-ish Beachcomber. The fact that my first car was a '66 AZL and the 'Comber was a replacement for a '74 LHD Square-Eye seemed to have been ignored...... Surely now the D*lly should be applauded as a model which introduced hundreds of people to the delights of 2CV ownership since a fair few of them have now become hardcore 2CV owners. The wollies themselves should now also be regarded as classics don't cha think?

 Re: New Look, Opinions
The problem I have isn't with the D*lly, or D*lly owners in general, its the stigma the car gave to every other 2cv, jeez, you could drive a ripple down the high street and somebody will say 'thats one of them D*lly cars innit?' which it isnt, it gave every other 2cv (and dyanes) a silly name in the eyes of the general non-2cv owning public.
I've owned wollies, and i probably will again, but it's the whole '..one of them D*lly things' stigma that annoys me!

 Re: New Look, Opinions
ive had the "isnt it a D*lly thing" experience myself, one day at work we were talking about my car, and everyone else with ther mod boxes were slagging it off as they do, thinking theyr electrical gizmos will live on forever and one of the guys said, isnt it called a D*lly car....... i then had to spend about half an hour trying to explain to him the variations of 2cv's and why mine isnt a D*lly, and then i asked him why he assumed my car was a "D*lly car" and his exact words were "isnt that a nickname they have or summin?" .... wasnt very happy!
