There must be a very lenient MOT station in that neighbourhood, or else someone's got a 'reserved for MOT purposes' headlight reflector in their box of spares...

It's a lovely, gnarly old car. Duck tape on the bonnet hinge, duck tape under the windscreen. Rear wings held on by its internal bolts only. Rust and patina wherever you look. It's been in Kiddie for years, and is still used as a daily runner.

But is it not nice too to drive around in a nice looking car too - I have no intentions of selling mine but I do like it looking good and being well maintained.

Not sure why the rat look is more thought of than a nicely restored car :?

Yes Ian it is nice to drive around in cars like the ones you create, they are wonderful, lovely things, they say much about your skill and dedication in recovering them to that state; and I agree, generaly speaking, they are more appreciated than the scruffy old nails.
What they don't say, however, is anything about themselves. What is their history? What have they seen? What have they done?
I think, and I'm sure other people will disagree ;) that the scuffs & dings, the paint wear and the mechanical vagaries are the life story of the machine. In a mass produced object 'individuallity' only creaps in as time and miles take their toll. Of course if things go too far then returning to the starting point is the logical thing but while it has its history writ upon its face I feel it should if possible be preserved.
My AZU is getting a restoration rather than a preservation as I'm replacing most of it but the AZAM has more of itself left so is preserved.

And personally, like LandRovers, I think 2CVs look better with a few battle scars :)

I like 2cvs in good condition, that's not what I'm saying. I just don't like the pretentious special editions like the supposedly upmarket charleston and so on, I see 2cvs generally as tools so its good to see one that's been used. I would hope my yellow car turns out shiny and looked after, but I've no interest in it being anything other than a tool.

Tesco, Kidderminster.

Had a quick chat with the owner. He'd bought it as a flatbed, then discovered its chassis was knackered. Replaced it with galvanised, then just after he got it back on the road someone bashed into the back of it outside his house. It's looking pretty good now, but the owner says the engine runs a bit rough when it's cold (dies and coughs and splutters between gear changes, from the sound of things). Has electronic ignition, new pistons etc etc. Any ideas?

I wholeheartedly recommended this forum to him as a place to find the answer!

Suspiciously familiar C reg Azam on a country lane today and an unfamiliar red/white D*lly in Chichester - it wasn't jameswallace unless he's REALLY let both himself and his car go.
