Nels,
on 15th November last year.
"...that bodge with self-tappers never lasts long".

You may find that even with a new lid, the fit isn't the best, so maybe bear in mind the option of using 6mm studding to hold it down... ;)

Had the usual weekly run to make sure everything is hunky dory and on start up did a massive back fire through the air filter and stalled....second turn over started fine but noisy - thought, typical blown filter out of housing, so looked under bonnet to find, yes, blown filter out but, as I had screws in it into housing to stop it turning and coming out, had blown it clean off screws taking massive chunk of cold plastic with it....bollocks, off to ECAS on Monday for a new top.....

Yesterday evening, bunged on a pair of new boogie cords I found in the bottom of the new bits box, was surprised by the quick start up & instant ability to tick over. :? All that pain has been plug leads????

Drove to the top of Portsdown Hill for the Puddle Ducks 'Valantines Convoy' ran well, climbed hills 3 up, started readilly... Transformed!!! :D :D :D :D

Time to boogie on down to Ebay and add a multimeter ( with a kΩ setting ) to the toolkit? ;)

I have one of those! Don't really understand it

I have bad habits, I swap bits to see if it cures the problem. I hoard bits. Not all the bits I hoard are good bits. The 'plug lead cure' now means the coils I threw out out need to be re-assesed since their apparent duffness may have been plug lead...
Interestingly, the 3 different coils I tried produced different symptoms working through the 'duff' leads. I did notice that the coils heating up started in the 'lumps' on each end where the contacts for the plug leads are... A clue perhaps.

OK, so I installed my 12-spark the last few days. Welded the pick up to the fly wheel, welded the RPM sensor bracket on the manifold, and the temperature sensor bracket (nut) to the heat exchanger.
Made the vacuum connection in the carburetor, and installed the little black box under the dash.
Must say, all went without problems, and the whole thing started like a charm.
I made a testride on an abandonded field (due to self chosen tax reasons in NL I'm not allowed on the road untill March 1st) and had a ball !!

Us too. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time, as usual. Thanks to Peter for organising it all.
