Tripyrenees wrote: Silly question - I bought a electric feel pump that I will install closer to the tank. Does this mean I can do away with the mechanical engine feel pump and just put a blank slate where it should be. And then feed the fuel pipe directly to the carb. Lots of stuff I was thinking about while welding the floor in today Sounds slightly obscene - this car wasn't owned by a pimp in a previous life was it?!

 Re: 1955 Traction Avant 11cv
I am currently flitting between jobs. I have put the new floor in and will update later once that is totally finished. In the mean time I have checked and serviced my gearbox and got into a state it will be allowed back in the car. It was in a bit of a state and I was worried it was going to be the same inside but from the previous photos it can be seen to quite nice in there. Attachment:

After about 2 days of cleaning - I am whittling these cleaning jobs down now but they still suck big time Attachment:

And then finally, the nice job of painting and making everything pretty again. I am also learning a lot about the operation of the gearbox...the hard way... by rebuilding, unbuilding, rebuilding correctly. I like the way the thrust bearing when activated towards the clutch activates the middle lever of the gearbox to allow gear selection. So without pressing the clutch down you can't select a gear (I know you wouldn't anyway but this seems to be a fail safe way) Attachment:

No new parts were used in the making of this photo Attachment:

Then I progressed to the water pump which I thought was going to be totally rusted out. But after wire wheeling and scraping the guts out both units looked to be in good shape. The propeller is in perfect condition as are the bearings and seals. So more cleaning and paint work and greasing and rebuilding. Attachment:

Where the rubber hoses attach there is pitted holes but there is a good 3mm of good metal left. Plus I will using a waterless coolant when I rebuild so the corrosion will hopefully not get any worse. It will last another 50 years at least Attachment:

All done and rebuilt, just to add the fan later (in its bright new yellow look) Attachment:

Like many others, this is my current favourite thread. I looks forward to updates and lots of photos. Think this is going to be a cracking chariot once finished and back on the Route Nationales .

I once bought some used paint, it came in the shape of a house...

Ditto all the previous with nobs! Especially 'how are you cleaning stuff?' & used paint - I hate painted houses...

 Re: 1955 Traction Avant 11cv
I am using a wire wheel on my drill. Then a large screw driver to scrape into the deeper crevices. Then a wash down with a rag soaked in petrol. Then comes out the sharper screwdriver to scrape the hundreds of small bits I missed. Then the rag and petrol again but using my finger to rub off any excess crap. I get it all shiny and clean and then slap a load of paint on it that would have covered over any crap anyway.... but then I would know (Talking of houses, a couple of days ago I cut out a load of electrical boxes in my plasterboard walls. Took hours threading cables behind so I would not have to chase anything out. Came to install the first socket today and the cable fell down the back of the wall - an hour later I was back where I started but with the wifes helping hand.... "do not let go of that f$£king cable")
