Don't do it, it's a hideous place to work, staff morale is non existent. Mark Cleghorn works there and abdolutely hates it!

You gotta start somewhere!

What apprenticeship is it? My bro has worked in the industry for 20 years or so... and while some places have been better than others, he's got a pretty good life and job now. He currently works for Jag. He's had stints at GM, Bentley, McLaren, and several smaller, niche companies.

Incidentally, there's an engineer at the Jag research HQ near Warwick whose daily drive is... a 1974 plated Do77y! There's a lot of respect for the Duck amongst the guys that know, apparently.

Got a few friends who work there as apprentices. They all love it to death

Ive applied for two apprentaships. One as a factory assembler and one as a paintshop worker.

Either will do. An apprentaship with rolls has got to be a massive seller in my 2cv!

Anyway i want a long term career rather than working for a one man band

My bro did work experience, and then after a couple of years he did a HND in engineering. A few ups and downs, and redundancies and job insecurity etc, but he hung in there and now he's doing alright. Even had stints working for GM in Japan and Aus.

Good luck James, car workers will always be in demand in the UK. And if not, there's always trains and aerospace.

Good luck with it! Although if you get an assembly job, be prepared for it to be mind-numbingly boring after a while!

Don't bother with production, you'll want to put a bullet in your head. You gotta try for Engineering or Experimental!

Very jealous James! If I was younger, I would love to work in a manufacturing environment like that where people take pride in making probably the best car in the world - I once had the pleasure to go round Jaguars body plant in Coventry, seeing how all the parts came together on the line and also the carpentry department making the dashes, with all the veneers in racks and true workmanship and craft that went into the cars.

Shame, I've never met anyone who can do what you do with gel coat. You should drop down to Northshore or over to Orkney in LA and see if they'd give you a trial.
