The OSV, or Open Source Vehicle.

http://www.osvehicle.com/

The project is released under Creative Commons BY-SA license and the CAD files can be downloaded from the official website. The chassis can be assembled in less than 45 minutes and is able to carry two to four passengers.

Electric engines available. Hybrid engines coming soon. Parts available. Interesting idea.

(For what it's worth, I don't think it's got much appeal, apart from to people who like pootling and experimenting and messing about with cheap cars - ie people like 2CV enthusiasts. In which case, this concept offers no real advantage over, say, an old 2CV. People who are into cheap motoring will just buy whatever is cheap at the time, such as £400 Ford Kas, Fiat Puntos etc.)

Tata Nano is even more dangerous than a 2CV, apparantly: http://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2014/jan/31/tata-nano-safety-crash-test-results

Remember the whole 'safety' aspect of 2cvs not continuing production was pedestrian safety not driver/passenger safety.

I didn't know that. I'd always assumed it was due to costs due to inability to mechanise 2cv production plus driver/passenger safety.

The 2cv was designed to meet the biggest transport issue of the day - which was that Joe Average couldn't afford a car. That isn't the problem now.

"The 2cv for the 21st century" would be a properly integrated public transport system.
