Why are people so shit whilst driving around bikes? Is it because they hate cyclists so drive like a twat on purpose, or are people just completely clueless...?

There seems to be a strain of people round here cycling OUTSIDE a cycle lane on the road dont get it

That also annoys me - but sometimes is safer/necessary to do so...

I came out of a cycle lane twice through Hereford today (on my bike) because people creep into them at junctions and block them...

And the potholes/drains/rubbish/glass inside the (often too narrow) lane sometimes make it a requirement.

In my 30years of cycling on roads I've never used a cycle lane. I've never actually ridden anywhere where one is available.

In any case a cycle lane doesn't have a mystery force field on the white line. You still need to give sufficient space when overtaking. Many drivers seem to think that as long as their wing mirror doesn't actually make contact they're driving safely.

That chap is crazy - must be specialist stunt guy or something.
Over here the general motorist is pretty good but I give the finger at least once per ride for a car passing me too close. There is a cycle lane in Avranches town - up one of the steep hills but it just stops at a narrow part of the road - I think town planners need to use them to see how dangerous it is for both cyclists and drivers.....

Totally agree with you there! I was amazed at the difference between the UK and Europe's mentality to cycling in general - I always knew it was a much bigger thing but the respect and awareness compared to over here was brilliant! (Obviously not all the time though...)

I've also found drivers in France, Italy and Spain to generally be more clued up to cyclists than many in the UK. Not ridden in Holland but it goes without saying, I guess, that they are the best (or at least if they were to swear at you it would be in impeccable English) ?
