On the road to Shetland. Left Worcester at 4:45am and I'm currently polishing off a breakfast at Tebay. :-)

Not sure if anyone has seen the French news or if it has made it overseas, but our valley here in the Pyrenees got wiped out on Tuesday by a massive storm and flooding.

I was lucky to have 16 guys on a cycle tour staying that night and we managed to dig a barrier around the perimeter of the house and only a tiny amount of water got in. The whole village was in water.

The villages up the valley were totally destroyed as they had to release the pressure from the upstream dams. Fire brigade told us to evacuate but we stood firm and shifted all the downstairs furniture upstairs. My wife then had to feed all the guests and prepare for the next tour the day after.

Scary times with this weather but we managed to get thru relatively unscathed.

This is the start when the river breached the road, after that it just came over in torrents.

there has been constant convoys of fire and rescue trucks and now the army too for the past week.

The fires have started as everyone is burning their soggy furniture.

We managed to get cleaned up pretty quickly and have another 11 cycling guests arrive for a week - I just have to modify some of the routes so not to go through the worst effected villages - bad taste to cycle through and gawp.

Worst one is the town on the Col du Tourmalet - which means the most iconic climb in the Pyrenees is no longer rideable which will be a downer for many. But then they haven't lost their house so not so bad.
