Not only does it test crankshaft durability, it tests a drivers ability to push the envelope, make sure his or her car has travelled faster than any of their peers and in doing so it establishes the size of their balls.

Ah, memories of having my ol' Mehari off the clock on that long M25 hill by the M23 junction... The roof (sidescreens & tailgate top off, rear sides & top on) filled with air, generating substantial lift - and it touched down briefly, about once in each lane.

This is a good way to calculate TRUE top speed of your car. Other methods going down long hill with crank and pistons trying to come out of your engine is WAY TOO WRONG.

Blue car was one of the faster - Dyane box, slightly lowered totally plated underneath Diffuser on rear bumper mounts, 9:1 pistons, balanced engine (no blower) jetted carb semi electronic Ignition, Hi power coil. Would rev up over 6500rpm and still feel like it had power never maxed it out down hills but it'd pull up them no worries. would sit at 71mph up hill and down dale all day. Vick couldn't believe it when we travelled to CZ couldnt shake me off in the C2 and that was 2 up fully laden.

now its resting waiting for some attention

I got 89.6 across a test track with similar to the M62 in the red 2cv.

BIG TAIL WIND, was struggling to get above 70 in the other direction and that was downhill

I've been thinking about this. How many of you out there have touched 90mph? 85? I'm guessing 90mph is only going to be a select few? Joolz, Neil and who else?

Well, I took mine on the motorway for the first time in ages on Saturday, and I got way over 75 on it with ease, without a tail wind. I could've pushed it further... and realised that I've never tried to see just how fast it'll go. It's easily the peppiest 2CV engine I've had - but I'm always just a bit wary about thrashing engines, ever since I ended up with a piston sticking out of my crankcase on my blue Club back in 89.

Don't they stick out from the crankcase anyway ;)

Seriously, how is that even possible?
