Re: Blue Smoke / Engine flush?
yer i know a gucked engine can be fucked at 140k or 1k just saying it was the usual little old lady who i bought the car off, although it was genuinly hers from new.. what do you mean its a shortcut to a fucked engine? as in having naff timing, i shall get on to it over the weekend after ive understood fully how to do it

(not familior with some a series terms ) and probably that will be answered, but where do i start the mark, when the light comes on or random? thats the only bit im confused about, and pegging, do you mean from the points box all the way through or have i missed the concept? going to run out and get the haynes manual out of car and have a good read again, right so ive now read it, and its got me even more confused, where am ishoving this 6mm rod thing that doesnt exist yet?! what i dont understand, is what i connect the light to also, i earth it on something, and then dis connect the live fead to the coil?! how ido i rotate the engine with the fan off, is the fly wheel fairly easy to move? too confused!

Re: Blue Smoke / Engine flush?
right sorry to post again, 3rd post, and secondly sorry to alkie for total hijack of this thread, however, i think its start to come clear in my fuzzy brain, so i put a rod (looking like my cornish flag, sorry neil, the stick on it is perfect) through some hole, not sure where, but certainly a hole on the car... and then when that lines up on the fly wheel thats the firing point on the engine, so i mark it on the fly wheel and on starter or something for reference later on, i then connect a lamp (this is the bit im un certain about) between the points box feed and an earth... or what?? both? the live? and put the ignition on, ive obviously removed the ht leads by this time, and i turn the engine over and find when the light is lighting up, and see how much it is out, i then turn the engine back so its 1 tooh after the mark where i marked, and adjust the points box so the light is on then, and then it should go out at the next tooth, and walla, timing set??? or am i still way off

Re: Blue Smoke / Engine flush?
up yer ah! you pre empted that one
theres a hole in rhs belhousing engine bit that when you push in a 6mm rod( and it should be 6mm) and you turn the flywheel the rod drops into a hole in the flywheel and the engine is locked at 8degrees BTDC and that is the static timing point

Re: Blue Smoke / Engine flush?
righty oh so at that point, in theroy the light should be on, thats when i mark it, so i know where firing point is, i then connect up light etc, find where its sparking, and compre the two and adjust it so its 1 tooth after the mark, could i put the nut for the fan bolt back in and turn it with a socket, and its clockwise the engine fan rotates when the engine is running isnt it? just so i dont do it all back to front, im goign to do the points while im there (but before i do timing!!!!) no blonde moments there, and the points should just be starting to dis engage one tooth after or firmly open (bulb lit) think ive got ya, right the cornish flag will have to do i dont have a 6mm rod, what sort of house hold objects work? house is full of crap, so suggestions please
