I think the 4x4 crew were talking about PP and were not entirely positive. I'm not spending €70 on something that can be repaired for less than €1!

Nice job, Russ. Don't suppose you have access to a manometer to test whether it's working?

How thick was the old rubber diaphragm you removed compared to the mudflap? I wonder if the air pressure/suction will be able to overcome something as thick as this?

It was the same thickness which is why I used it, the only other bits of rubber about where old inner tubes and tractor tyres. Not only do I not have a manometer, even if I made one I don't currently have a working engine to test it on either. I'm going to rewrite the original post with better pictures and more explanations and sticky it when I do a second one with the improved and hopefully long lasting rubber flap.

It's not hard to get one of those "manometers". Just a bit of clear rubber hose, a piece of wood, some "big headed" screws and some water/beer/coolant/windscreen washer fluid or whatever is in the garage.
Or actually, if you think "less is more-always", just the rubber hose with some water and hold it in a U-shape. It will give you an idea of the working state of the breather.

use lhm in the tube and if the engine decides to suck the contents of the tube into the engine internals then its not a full oil change ;) or a fubared engine

If that happens, there's some serious misjudgments going on

Sean, next time I will use cable ties! Simple and clever indeed.
