You did rather seem to enjoy being rather drunk on the bouncy castle with far too many attractive young ladies !!

Post Re: London to Brighton
As someone wearing a nice fluorescent waistcoat at the Ace cafe I would like to mention a couple of points.
1. As a local club we've been helping start the l2b for 15years, when we started it was about 650cars from Syon Park. With that number you can charge a low entry fee and still pay the £600 odd it was then for the site. Before my time, but I'm told when it started from battersea there were over 1000 cars.

2. As the number of attendees reduces then we have to start looking for smaller (cheaper) sites to start. The ace cafe has been by far the best place for some time - easy to find, very easy to leave and good food at a good price. We don't pay for the carpark, they expect us to eat and marshall free of charge for us.

3. We were one of the last to leave (parked as we were in front of the windows) and actually kept a convoy of a dozen cars together out to Dorking. I reached 70mph up to Horsham.

4. the Horsham pit-stop was a new arrangement and I think maurice will do this again (if only as a toilet break).

5. I am personally not a fan of Hove Park, but there is ample room there to have more cars, tents, etc - just that no other "dealers" want to come. We have to pay for the park and the toilets (A couple of hundred each ), stickers and printing (if only a pound each it adds up). This event is not underwritten by 2CVGB and as such cannot make a loss.

6. I did a Smart Car L2b a few years ago (as a passenger) and they finished on madeira drive (as did the mini run a few weeks ago). BUT this would mean a cost of probably £30-£50 a car.

7. The cars parking on the road outside are really pathetic - they didn't start from the north circular at any rate.

8. The only person the marshall thought rude was driving the yellow bierre 33 van. He thought the rest of us were really happy and friendly and would welcome us back.

9. Please send all suggestions to Maurice (current editor of the 2CVGB news). He does his best with little or no help and it can be hard thinking of new ideas. Oh and thanks for all who did take part. The only cars I recognized from here were Jonathan's green and white and Hetty - sure there were more though.

Took the van for a pre-Salbris run. Much 435cc goodness ensued!

Had a nice time, bought some bits, saw some cars, met up with friends, had a good evening back at camp on the Sunday night.

From that point of view, what more could you want?

Agreed that the event itself is a shadow of its former self, but I guess times change, there are probably more 'bin there dun that' folk than there are new first-timers to take their place on the run.

Not sure what the answer is - up the event as a whole and charge more, or rest it for a couple of years, or just keep it as it is? You do tend to see a lot of people & cars you''d not see at any other event so it does have some appeal still.

If there were 1000's of cars turning up for this event 20 years ago and now we are talking hundreds. It probably just reflects the % change of A series in existence, what with so many being scrapped over the years?

Maybe, but this year will see a 2cv meeting with the highest attendance for decades...
