 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
The Old-Goat has Pm'd me and things have been sorted out between us amicably, as they should be. I understand that he has recently taken on an unexpectedly complicated task, and while at no point did I blame him personally for incidents of human error that occasionally happen, we clashed because he is human, up to his neck with other peoples work, and it's unpaid work. (The worst kind) The matter of my full name is something that I don't mind appearing in print in such things as specialist publications which are likely to be read mainly by enthusiasts. The internet however is a very different animal. Speaking of animals there are those remnants of my former life that would still seek me out, either to ask favours or to lure me back into a world I no longer embrace or recognise. This is why names are not known and photographs of me quickly removed -ever noticed? Such shadows are never to be found reading the 2cvgb magazine, or classics monthly, they are too busy hurting people for money, or surfing the net. As for my book I may have news on that front. The main one, and I say this because now there are two books, has been progressing nicely. Although it only deals with the period between 1994 - 2004 so much of interest happened during that time it could likely run for many chapters, which means it may take a while. Also, digging back into those memories is proving unexpectedly painful at times, and I need to chill out from time to time after revisiting them to prevent becoming unhappy, or morose. So what happened was I decided to write another book along side it, only this one will be the humorous story of my life with 2cv's. A sure antidote I find, to the often harrowing real life of the other tome. This book will be easier to write (he says) and be finished the sooner. At the moment I am studying the use of the English language by reading educational books such as Warriner's Grammar and composition, Strunk's Elements of Style, and the Economist style guide, all of which have me fascinated. I can't write yet. it would be conceited of me to think I can, but what I intend to do is write the two books while still learning then edit them to be better when I'm done because by then I hope to have a better grasp of punctuation and grammar. In fact, I learned more from the inside rear cover slip of the Economist style guide than I did at school. " Frankenstine was not a monster, but his creator. Masterful means imperious masterly means skilled. Brilliant! Top stuff.

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
The data protection act does apply to 2CVGB. However, nowhere on our database does it link username on a forum to real name, so I can only assume that Old Goat knew who Old Nail is by some other means.
Glad you've sorted it out Mr Nail.
George - that is not very public spirited to slag off a former committee member who was trying her best. I'm pretty sure every committee member in the history of ever has made mistakes. I know I did. We try our best, often when no-one else is prepared to.

It's been sorted gents - let it lie please. dollywobbler wrote: George - that is not very public spirited to slag off a former committee member who was trying her best. I'm pretty sure every committee member in the history of ever has made mistakes. I know I did. We try our best, often when no-one else is prepared to. What became clear from our conversation was that no one is slagging anyone off Ian. There was simply a tangle of paperwork to be placed in a different order as people prefer to work using a system of their own preference. Looking at it that way no two people will do the same thing the same way, so the initial shuffling of papers is often the most time consuming and stressful. Anyway, water under the bridge. As I said before Volunteers to their credit do things for free, but most of all they do those things because they want to. There has to be some other kind of pay off involved, be it prestige, a sense of involvement, or a warm fuzzy inner glow. I don't volunteer for anything as is my right, and I prefer to get my warm fuzzy inner glow from a glass of Jack Daniels these days, but that doesn't make me or others like me somehow inferior, or lacking in public spiritedness. That view, or the allusion that such a view exists is what turns so many off organised clubs. Volunteers like to feel appreciated, I can understand that. I was a shop steward once many moons ago when there was never any appreciation for what I did, so I stopped. I know only too well the stress of the unappreciated volunteer, which is why I no longer volunteer for anything.

People on forums get to know each other, whether on forums or in fields. Thanks Old Nail - it can get bloomin' frustrating trying to do a task you've got no experience in (I've never run a website!) and doing the best you can. I'm sure Anna's cursed me at some point over the past few months! Maybe Jack Daniels is the future...

Just to change the subject a bit, this made me laugh, because you just described me, the devil in my head was working hard yesterday, so I thought it best to say nothing and stay logged off rather than escalate anything
