The indicators on my 2CV are rather slow. The pause is long so that when manouvering round roundabouts even tho I'm working the indicator stalk like a maniac the lights don't respond that quick.

I tried a few other aluminum flasher units that I had but none are much better.

Anyone know of a way to make the flash rate faster perhaps by using a resistor etc or know of a more modern flasher unit that will fit and is perhaps adjustable?

Mark if all the electrics are as they should be then its a bit odd that all the cans are the same state.

The whole thing is controlled by a resistance wire that heats up expands breaks a contact cools makes contact etc etc

open the can and you see one end of the wire goes to a tab that when turned with a pair of pliers stretches or tenses the wire......you can work it out

or buy a new one ... your Scottish roots are showing ;)
or come and have a rummage if your up over Christmas (ive moved tho)

No problem buying a new one. After shelling out for a 4x4 I can just about manage that.

It just seems to me that as compared to my other Citroen indicators that flash 50% on 50% off the 2CV indicators spend more than 50% off. Perhaps it the bulbs maybe LED ones would help.

Any ideas?

Don't you have double indicators at the back of the 4x4? Could the extra load (3 bulbs per side) be affecting the flash rate?

Between 60 & 120 flashes/minute is the requirement for the MOT test.
If a bulb's blown, the flash rate speeds up with the alloy canister units, so in theory an extra 21w bulb in circuit would slow it down...

Mind you, isn't it odd that with the hazard lights on, hence 4 x 21W bulbs in use, the flash rate doesn't seem to alter? :?

Anyway, if it does turn out to be those extra 21W bulbs which are causing the problem on the 4x4, you'll have to lash out and replace the 'add-on' set with LED bulbs. ;)

( Edit: just remembered that I replaced the alloy canister units on Chris Isle's 4x4 Dyane with an electronic unit which I'd got off a Ford in the local scrapyard. {There were 2 units on the bulkhead of Chris's car, but both had suffered from being dunked in a mud bath.}
Anyhow, those electronic units seem to have a constant flash rate regardless of load and are available from at least one of the usual suspects.

I had an electronic halfords one on my D*lly, it worked well enough, and didn't seem to have a problem with trailer lights. I don't know how well it would cope with a second set of lights permanently but, as mentioned in the other thread, perhaps LEDs in the second set would be the answer.

Ken, with only one indicator connected, my aluminium flasher goes *very* slowly! I always assumed that it went faster the more current was being drawn through it.

mine is slow but doesnt change when it has the extras on it in the form of a trailer
