What was lacking for me was a beer tent/marquee on the actual site. A place where people can go, sit down en masse & chew the fat, chill out and have a laugh.

Would that be the available-to-all marquee, just next to where the van selling beer was parked at the end of the rocker-racing/silly-games arena, just on the edge of the trade stands?

As I remember, the best Internationals (yes, yes) were always those which were held at places like Ripley Castle (1995), Chilham Castle (1996) and Grimthorpe (2001?). The ones held on flat municipal fields, like rugby pitches, racecourses and so on, never had the same atmosphere. But perhaps that's just my take on it. And I have to say in fairness, that if I organised one the chances of it actually happening would be very small indeed, so I'm not going to be too critical. :)

You know that small tent for people to sit in? Belongs to 2CVGB, but Marky D had to go all the way from Winchester to Canterbury and back to get it off a Southern Clubs bloke who wouldn't bring it to the national. It's going back to Ruskington.

Big Marquees are the best, but cost loads of money. Several grand for the week, so pretty much blow your budget.

Shame if I had known that 2CVGB needed a marquee - one of Team Lumaca I2F sponsors is a marquee company based in Winchester I am sure that they could have helped.

A few of my pictures;

(I know it's not an A series, but it's a brilliant car nonetheless!)

Bertie has all ready posted identical pictures to the rest of mine...
(Though I never found you! Apparently a speedo cable is on it's way to me via a long chain of people... If you still have need of engine mounts I can post them to you?)

It's the first national I've been to, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you very much to everyone who made it happen!

I think you must've been at a different meeting to me. I had a whale of a time

My thoughts exactly. There seems to have been a lot of chat about "the club" being fuddy duddy lately and a need for the younger generation to keep the scene going so I would have thought if 2CVGB (actually one of the regional groups) had sorted the logistics, then the atmosphere is down to the people surely?

Yes, I gave the cable to Mark Dunmore to give to John Stenhouse. I do need engine mounts but there's no hurry ;)

Thats a bit off

surely if they had borrowed it it was their responsibility to return it as and when it was needed?

Hey, what can I say? That was my opinion which, I believe I'm entitled to! It doesn't matter how many times I'm told to the contrary, I won't change my opinion-sorry.

The hall instead of a marquee certainly didn't help me, and the "it's really expensive to hire a marquee" argument is just bullshit! If that's what it takes, the club has the money-invest it in the members FFS.

I'm certainly not criticising the work done by Carol and Coops and the rest of the volunteers, I think they almost certainly did the best they could with their hands possibly tied somewhat by the club and the insurance man.
