Thought you guys would like an update. Went into the garage today and they had given up at taking the fan off!! So absolutley nothing had been done! Had an errand to run that reall needed the car and a route that had a 30 limit so took her there, no problems whatsoever so on the way back took the dual carriageway, if it wasn't for the traffic I would have been able to sustain 70 no problem. Just got a nasty smell of wd40 which must have been the mechanics. Think I will chance it to the first service station on sunday which is about 15 miles on the motorway and see how she does. Maybe it was just a loose accellerator cable after all....

The garage gave up because they couldn't get the fan off?! :roll:

If i were you i'd have a look for someone who actually knows what they're doing - this would be a good place to start;

Better to get it checked out and have peace of mind - than chance it & be faced with a potentially hefty bill...

Again, I'd mistrust a garage that can't undo a single bolt. I'd suggest, as Neil has, that you find a local 2cv friendly garage asap. Do not take it to a garage like the one you have been, they are clearly incompetent.

Make sure the monkeys put the bolt back in the fan!

Final update: got my car back to Stafforshire on the back of a borrowed trailer. As well as having unhappy points, one of her tappetts wasn't working at all and for some reason, whilst on the back of the trailer the exhaust had separated itself from the engine!! She now has a new handbrake (not that the other was broken, I just have small hands and couldnt put it on fully) a nice electronic ignition, a left hand side kingpin and window catch that my other half managed to break as we took her off the trailer!! She passed her mot with no problems whatsoever and is running like a totally different (and much better) car :)
