incidently, anyone know of any saharas round here in the country?

There are a few; Alan Lloyd the old car registrar for 2CVGB has one. Bob MacQueen one of 2CVGB's founding members has one, which i believe is undergoing a full restoration in Graham Draper's workshop:

I also believe there's one in Scotland awaiting restoration... there are probably more in club members hands...

must add, the reason they changed the design from the weird, well i want to say corrogated metal but not really, from that style to the now known "normal" style is because of the cost of the metal, probably caused by war..

James, Citroen have a lot to thank Hitler for. Without his deluded ambitions of world domination, Citroen would of launched a truly awful car. We can now look back at the TPV with rose tints, but as a practical means of transport, it was a big NO,NO.

Apart from a passing resemblance to the TPV(the pre-war 2cv), the post-war car has almost nothing in common.

There is a Michelin "factory mule" that is now owned by a private museum in France(I think down near Lyon). There is a car found at the Citroen test track in the 1960s and was "restored". In 1993, the manager at the test track contacted Citroen HQ to tell them they had found some bits for the TPV they had at The Conservatiore, would they like to collect them? On arriving at the test track they asked if there was anything else they might take with them, only to be told to "go into that barn over there". On entering and climbing the rickety stairs, they were presented by 3 TPVs sat in thick dust and cobwebs  . The test track manager and most of the local workers knew they were there, but thought Citroen HQ knew that also. The cars were removed in January 1998, and Citroen have no plans(and rightly so)of restoring them.

Hope that helps. :ugeek:

The design owes a lot to the German school of architecture & design called Bauhaus. It was set up in 1919, just after WWI and was banned by the Nazi Party when it came to power in 1933. The curves(especially on the pre-war cars, and especially regarding the passenger door apertures), are generally called Bauhaus curves. The design of the seats are also heavily influenced by Bauhaus(tubular frames).

There is a photo of a concept car from c1933 by Le Corbusier, that has very striking similarities to the car we all know and love, I need to see if I can locate it on the Web.

If you want to learn more about Bauhaus and Le Corbusier, then Wiki 'em. There's no mention of 2cvs or Citroen, but interesting all the same :ugeek:

Ok, hopefully you lot won't think we're going "off topic" here, but I've found the Le Corbusier concept, which is from 1929, not 1933 as I thought......
