No doubt there'll be plenty of people along shortly, correcting me. How can a car 'have' doors unless they are fitted? I used to do that all the time with my first dyane, it's a much nicer way of driving in the summer! Iirc, you're meant to have some form of restaint, ie, a bit of chain between the doors,I never bothered.

Me too ..... [when I had a Dyane ]. All I ever used was the seatbelt, never had any issues with the Plods. It was in the 70's/80's though .....I dunno if C&U laws have changed since then.....[I never removed the rear doors if I had rear passengers]. Another reason the Dyane is superior to the 2CV .... [and yes ...I do currently drive a 2CV] T.

I too have driven without doors and not been pulled over for it.
No idea what the actual legal stance is though, that said I knew a chap whose land rover had no doors and was I belive legal.

AIUI, the only issue is that you have enough mirrors. For MOT purposes, you need one on the driver's side and one other. I don't think it says anything about the one on the driver's side flapping around uselessly.

Re: Took my doors off today.
Been trawling the web for an answer to this issue of legality, and an interesting though unrelated fact I've found is...You can not legally tow with a Ford Ka Still can't find an answer to the doors off scenario, though.

No, I couldn't find a definitive answer last night. The Land Rover people have had endless discussions much the same as this one on their forums.

Jonathan wrote: You can not legally tow with a Ford Ka Not surprised - anything post '97 needs to have a fully approved towbar installed. I can't see Ford going to the hassle of approving a bar for a Kak. IIRC, Merc didn't approve one for the Smart, either - but somebody aftermarket did.

Re: Took my doors off today.
Does anybody here know a friendly traffic officer? They should know, more so than a common & garden officer.
I've always fancied cruising round doorless, but haven't so far, due to this somewhat "grey area".
