Ok thanks for your input. I think the whitewall Idea has pretty much been talked down now and the more thought I've given it the more I tend to agree.

Well I managed to nip over to 2cv City near Halifax this afternoon and pick up a final few bits, including a new roof for the car. Having given it much though and decided on the Agave green that Citroen had originally fitted to match this paint I was disappointed to find that this was perhaps the one roof colour that they didn't have - bummer!

The devil in me was still saying "Buy red, buy red" but then the proprietor of 2cv City, Tony Shields said words to the effect of "Oh No, that red would look 'orrible", and having heard several similar sentiments expressed recently, then rather than consider this yet another occasion when every bugger else was marching out of step, I duly bowed to popular opinion and all my hopes of flying in the face of convention were dashed. Bah!

The colour I did go for then obviously isn't the agave green that Citroen originally used, but one of a slightly darker hue. It's still green, and it matches very well actually, and it is a practical choice in the sense that road grime won't show easily, so I'm happy enough. I've yet to fit the new mudflaps, indicators and side repeaters, retrim the seats, and fettle all the bits and bobs until they sit right with each other. The goal is to have everything done for the weekend, then spend a day or two fixing the (long) snag list that I've made up, insure it, and take it off to meet the MOT man. :D

Your only a young man yet James but remember that very shift in peoples perception that you are witnessing now, because you'll see it over and over again in your lifetime. Look at something 12 years old and it just seems old, but somehow by the time it's 24 years old people are talking about it in reverent terms. It's suddenly 'classic' or collectable. It happens with everything from cars, to plastic star wars figures, you name it. ;) It may sound crazy now, but even the trainers on your feet will be fetching big money as 'vintage footwear' in the year 2035.

Having driven a succession of 2CV's & Dyanes as my "everyday daily driver" from 1973 until 2004 ......I'd never thought of the 2CV as a classic,it was only the purchase of a BXtzd [in 2004] which made me realise how many "looks" the 2CV got in normal everyday use.....I suddenly felt that I was just "one of the herd" whilst in the BX ....and even now,I get that same sense in my [present] C4.

Also [only last week] ....I accidentally met an old friend who I had'nt seen for about 10 years .....over a coffee in the local "Greggs" he asked ......"Are you still driving that 2CV" .....to which his 20 year son piped up ....
....."Whats a 2CV then?"

Yeah, that England flag spoils it, somewhat. ;)

I've already been warned that the England flag isn't legal on the plates so that might be an issue at MOT time yet. I did the England flag deliberately too as I didn't want that daft EU circle. I'm not sure about French plates though I can't picture how they look? Anyone got a piccy?

Except they don't really suit a GB reg, IMHO. I don't like show plates.

I'll consider it, but if they increase the chances of my being stopped, patronised, and then arrested then no. And trust me, if I'm stopped and patronised, I will be arrested. ;)
