Post Carb accelerator pump - is it me?
The trip to the Easter camp reminded us of one of those "Must get around to..." jobs on Sparky ('82 Club - I know the carb itself is the original, but it might have had the thingummy on top replaced after the usual escape attempt). Sort the smell of petrol.

The rod for the accelerator pump has long been all floppy-around, so that's the obvious suspect. I got around to ordering a new diaphragm with the last pile of AK bits, so went to chuck that in this morning.

One of these...

But it don't fit...

The sticky-out bit in the middle has nowhere to go that I can figure.

Removing the lid from the old one resulted in a couple of bits falling out - so I'm not 100% that nothing escaped - but the one that's in there at the mo is a very baggy but intact diaphragm, with two metal discs, one either side. The rod click-fits into the discs, but only one at a time. I've put it back together with the old diaphram and a disk on the outside, clicked in to the rod.

So - have I got the wrong thing? Am I misunderstanding how it goes together? I've just had a horrible thought - this diaphragm IS for the thingy-on-top, right?

Wrong...

ken.

( The part illustrated is for the accelerator pump, which is on the front of the carb, near the alternator.

'Thingy on top', aka 'choke pull off device', is dead once the rod works loose in the diaphragm.
Best place for it then is the recycle bin. )
