Re: Oh no! 2CV lots of problems!
I thought the un-galvanised chassis was rust free, but today he showed me this in not the case.
As I learn more I expect I will start to do more myself, I want to, however I don't want to bodge it.

Re: Oh no! 2CV lots of problems!
He has done the rear breaks which were worn out, both front wheel bearings gone, both front kinpins dead, both front arms replaced. Next: service, roof fitting and my new coil, oh and he said he would sort the fuel gauge.
The spark plug was helicoiled and glued in. He has put it back in, not glued, but says it is staying in.... if not... a new head.
I have asked now for a rough estimate of cost as I am starting to get worried! I mean it seems like he has had it for a month.

Who's it with. He didn't put new front arms on did he I'm guessing he had second hand ones available? What kind of coil did you go with?

So - rear brakes, swap front arms, drop the tank and slap an earth on, swap coil, plug insert, roof & service. That it?

Re: Oh no! 2CV lots of problems!
Yes brand new arms (£120 each) as he said the holes were too big for the kingpins. It did feel dangerous in the corners and if you hit a bump it was scary. The coil was this one: http://www.ecas2cvparts.co.uk/ignition- ... -1159.htmltoomany2cvs wrote: So - rear brakes, swap front arms, drop the tank and slap an earth on, swap coil, plug insert, roof & service. Re: Oh no! 2CV lots of problems!
He's doing brand new swing arms for £120 each? Ecas list them at £145 so if they're genuinely new you got a good deal. If however thyre second hand You're right, as you learn more you'll do more yourself - time depending. I'm on that road myself don't worry, you'll get there!

Re: Oh no! 2CV lots of problems!
In truth it did feel dangerous in the corners especially if I went over a bump and he said that the kingpins were not only in upside-down but one was about to fall out. So it is better done!
He is going to work on a quote over the weekend so I can stop worrying how much it is going to cost, perhaps to be replaced with worrying how to afford it!

Justin Stop worrying, it's only money. I've spent the last few months replacing the chassis on Amélie, having the extensive (and expensive welding) done to the bodyshell plus much much more besides. One cannot help but worry but at the end of the day, the car will have an MoT and be safe (or as safe as a 2CV will ever be). Outwardly you car looks nice, soon she'll be inwardly sound too. Who needs summer holidays anyway
