Post Noisy bonking
Snowy the Snail Car occasionally makes a rather loud bonking noise when I reverse. Alarming. When I stick my foot on the clutch and continue to coast backward the bonking stops. Anyone got any idea what's going on?

I'm a bit of a novice with mechanics, but I'll have a go at anything. Got any instructions on what to do... or pointers on where to look?
Is this what I'd need: http://www.ecas2cvparts.co.uk/gearbox-m ... -1291.html ?

That's the gearbox mount, yes. You're very local so if you have any problems, drop me a PM and I'll help where possible mate.

It quite straight forward [Two bolts and two nuts] and is obvious when you look at it.

Support the gearbox first. The two big nuts only need slacking off while the two smaller bolts need to be undone. The mount will then just drop away.

Fitting the new one is the reverse of that.

Have a go, you will feel great when you have accomplished it.

Well, it's two bolts and another two bolts anyway ;)

There's the two 11mm (M7) bolts that hold the mount to the steering rack and the two 17mm (or 16mm depending on the age of your car) M10 bolts that go in to the back of the 'box. You only have to slacken the the ones on the 'box off as they go into the slots on the gearbox mount. :ugeek:

Righto. So there's no need to get all the engine and gearbox out. Just support the engine, undo the bolts and let gravity and a bit of gruntwork do the rest?
