Got the 2CV back this morning and took it for a run down towards the Cotswolds. Feels so much better to drive now. Still can't decide whether or not to pop over to France for a week.

Oh, and I've now managed to smash through the 60 miles walked since Monday morning. Time to ease up on that sort of thing.

Decided not to go to France. I booked a holiday cottage on the Kent/East Sussex border not far from Rye and travelled down this afternoon. Wasn't too bad a journey either.

Arrived home a little after half eleven this morning. Car has been emptied and put away in the garage. It passed 255,000 miles on the journey up from Lerwick.

Popped out for a pootle around the island this afternoon and when I returned home I noticed a rattling noise from under the bonnet. I left the engine ticking over and lifted the bonnet. The fan is no longer attached to the engine! I'll take a look tomorrow, but I'm praying it's not a broken fan caused by metal fatigue. Fingers crossed it's just the bolt that's unwound.

Oh, I had that once on a journey to Yorkshire. The fan centre had broken and the rest of the fan was rattling around still. New fan needed but just that one bolt.

Just taken a look at the fan. The centre section that can be prone to metal fatigue seems absolutely fine, no sign of damage. What has happened is the bolt holding the fan to the engine has come loose and the fan has dropped off the taper. All well and good, but I don't have the right tool to refit it. Bollocks! Hoping my neighbour has. Failing that I am hoping a work colleague has. Failing that I'll have to get it over to Hagdale to the local garage. Only a little over a mile away.

Waiting for my mate to pop round later (hopefully before it gets dark) with his toolbox which will hopefully have the right tools for the job.

Neighbour came out as I was stood in the garage looking at the car and lent me the right size ratchet for the job. Job done.

So we've been having some lovely weather in the Shetland Islands over the past few days, so yesterday I decided to take the old girl for a pootle around the island. All well and dandy, but then I noticed what I can only describe as the engine pinking (again!). Now I had the 123 reset when I was down in England last month, and there was absolutely no sign of pinking on the journey back to Aberdeen (450 miles), and none over the past few weeks. Only seems to have returned yesterday. The only change I can think of is the fact I refuelled at a local garage over the weekend. Starting to get a little pissed off now.
