Spliced in a new piece of red wire to the coil. The old one had melted here!

My suspicions were aroused after a lot of spluttering and missing this morning - not normal at all it runs like a champ usually and always has. I thought it was going to actually stop :(

After a quick look at the side of the road I noticed how melty that wire had got, bare wires in places and melted onto a couple of other wires. I stuffed a disposable glove around it for protection and it drove home fine so hopefully thats all it was.

Not sure it counts as doing anything in my A series but , but rebuilding the 2CV Front window frame around the original Belgian window glass.

I have found a dude in France making the banana shaped insert part in Stainless steel so no more rusty shitty crap going on inside the frame from now on ever. Usually what tends to happen is this random mild steel component inside the stainless steel frame, rusts away like a complete arse and expands the frame at the joint. This causes the window to rub the paint away from the door and eventually the door rusts out at the top if not treated.

Unfortunately the joining part on the passenger side frame is completely rotten and I whilst trying to get the window hold up nipple off it sheared off. The Other screws are also buggered. So I'll have to gently drill out the screws which is annoying and having to wait for new parts to arrive from France to build the other window. Hey ho..

Yesterday before I work I had to do a few things around the area, which included getting petrol in the 2CV. I had smiles and comments from people in the petrol station. I then had to deliver a card to friends of my parents, they looked out the window and were amazed by the car. Its cute, unusual, but cute!
I washed the car, and there was a bloke delivering takeaway leaflets. He stopped to comment on the car saying "beautiful car", I said thanks. He walked off and stopped a few yards down the road and said "no, it's infact exquisite"

8-)

In other news the car needs the exhaust fixing as it sounds like a boyracer car  (But to be honest I love that sound)

Matt, I saw those stainless window frame joining banana things you mention at a French national, they look like a really good idea, but I haven't worked out how to remove the very rusty original without obviously distorting the frame.

Put the seriously cleaned carb back in - it wouldn't start . Eventually got it running but no tickover, no revs, and died after a bit. Plugs sooted to hell. :o Top off carb, couldn't see anything wrong, put screwdriver to the jets, just to check like... Idle jet only screwed in 2 turns or so  Tightened it :| all back together, spun it, Yeah!! Instant start, tickover, smooooth, best I've ever had it run :D Had to go round the town twice to make sure
:D :D :D :D :D

Just about to go for a drive in the 2CV. Think I'll be ditching the grill muff by the end of the week. Spring has arrived. :D
