Was going to go and do some more on the van today, but when I got into my Escort van (hitherto much loved) it wouldn't move! Turns out the rear offside wheel is stuck. :(

Anyone got any idea what the problem is?

This is not a Escort-forum , so the answer is : No!

But...... it might be the brake that is stuck because of rust, or maybe the brakecilinder does not move. Best is to remove the wheel and see what the problem is.
Does the handbrake operate the rearwheels? Could be that got stuck.

A bottle of wine will solve it. At least for 12 hours or so, anyway.

Did you have a lot of wind and rain? We did here and when I got in my car today the discs had gone completely rusty and the handbrake was seized on, thankfully my car is rwd (right wheel drive) and it wasn't a problem to crack them off when I pulled away. I suggest taking the handbrake off and beating the living fuck out of the drum which might break the seal of the rust, you will need to use a metal hammer (not a dead blow type or rubber mallet) and it might help if a glamourous assistant puts a bit of leverage on it effectively trying to turn it (with a big scaffold pole over the wheel studs or something). If that doesn't work get an oxy-acetylene on the drum and get it red hot while trying the same thing.
