 Oil leak
So my car has developed a nasty oil leak, and I'm tired of topping up the oil every couple of days.
I've not had a chance to get the wings off the car yet, but i was wandering if there was likely culprit. The oil drips off the crankcase, but it seems to come further up as the nearside chassis leg seems to have a generous coating of oil. If i could get some pointers on the likely spot that would be great.
Thanks in advance

Oil pressure switch?

 Re: Oil leak
Oil pressure switch or pushrod tube. Possibly oil feed pipe.

 Re: Oil leak
All noted, thanks.
I guess the oil pressure switch and oil feed pipes are the easiest of those to fix?

 Re: Oil leak
Oil pressure switch is easiest but still a twat to do ideally a deep 22mm socket on it, front wing off but no major disassembly. Oil feed pipes involve removal of the fan cowling and cylinder head rubber shrouds. Pushrod tubes mean head off and either cunning bodgery or somewhat specialised repair.

 Re: Oil leak
I just changed the oil sensor today, easy but you have to have the cowling off and it's pretty tucked away. A surprising amount of oil was coming out of my old one. The oil feed pipe I had to do last winter and I hated every second of it. I did it in howling wind and freezing rain though, that might be why! It was pissing oil out of the pipe though and when i wiggled it to try and find where this big old leak was coming from, the corroded pipe pretty much let go and flooded the drive at work. It took me a few hours to do because although it's easy, it's kind of fiddly because of where it is.

 Re: Oil leak
And the most important thing to remember when fitting a new oil feed pipe? The torque figures in the Haynes are wrong, if you do the bolts that tight you'll strip the threads in the head.

 Re: Oil leak
Absolutely, I didn't have the torque figures actually and did strip the thread a little after originally not doing it up tight enough and having to nip it up tighter. Thankfully it was save able with a new banjo bolt. Lesson learned, be super careful with 2cv threads..

 Re: Oil leak
I appreciate all of this info guys, I need to re-set the valve clearances and clean the oil cooler on my day off so I'll strip a bit more off and take a proper look when I do that. I'm hoping it's the cheapest possibility!
