Can anyone tell me where the three wires go from the voltage regulator, I have a grey wire with a blue sleeve sheared off, no sign of a spare grey anywhere else in the loom!

Can't help with tracking down the wire which has disappeared, but this should help you figure out which one is missing.

In the diagram, D+ is 12 volt supply coming in from the ignition switch via the fuse box, D- is earth and DF is the feed out from the regulator to the alternator, as viewed on the 3 pins on the other side of the regulator.

That could help!
If the grey wire with brown is earth, another grey traces right back to the alternator, then the grey wire with blue should be the positive via a fused supply, right?

So to be doubly sure D+ is on the left hand side (when the unit is mounted as shown).

Spade connector at the back of the alternator.
