Post CB Radios (again!)
OK, bought me a Midland 98 on offer from Maplin for £49 as opposed to the normal £89.

I've also ordered a springer aerial and mount that I can either bolt to the roof rack or mount on the boot box.

I keep reading about SWR meters and 'tuning the whip' which doesn't mean a great deal. Am I going to have difficulties getting the setup to work or will it be fairly straight forward?

some aerials are pretuned so you don't need a swr meter. I think the springer from 4x4cb.com is pretuned (if thats where you've got it from) so you should be ok.

If you have to tune it it's not difficult to do once you borrow a meter.

I did order from 4x4cb so fingers crossed. Does the aeriel have to be mounted on metal to work?

ah so mounting on the boot box wouldn't work then? In that case it'll have to go on the roof-rack or adventure bars. If I mount it on the boot box could I run a cable to the chassis?

thank you :D

For those with gutter mounts - I'm having some brackets made to provide additional bracing. Anyone interested?

i would have been! maybe still... I didn't go for a gutter mount as I was concerned about the gutter's strength.

Does everybody have a callsign or do we just call the names of the people we know?
