Aidan,
Haynes has some guff on this topic, I've also found Citroen branded capacitors attached to the output post on alternators ( & sometimes on ignition coils) on cars.

Mounting the aerial well away from the battery/voltage regulator area used to help, but may not be as relevant if an electronic regulator is fitted.

Most of the times I ignore this kind of issues.
But..
When I switched to electronic regulator the interference on FM dissapeared.
What remained is some poping noise in low rpm possibly from the spark plugs.
My radio was fitted with a coil-capacitor filter and there is no antenna booster.

Mine does it too
Are you charging a phone or something at the same time? Mine does it if I charge my phone and use it as an iPod

Already on electronic regulator and electronic aerial. Will check all contacts and earths, and if that doesn't work Will just pretend i've got Brian Wilson in the back with his theramin!

*The electronic aerial with its high gain makes things worse.Try with a simple wire.
*If you want to exclude the alternator just remove the belt.
*Get a thick wire and connect the earth of the radio directly to the minus of the battery.
*The same with the bonnet.

I fitted a radio to my 2CV and was surprised to get no interference at all on FM,using an electronic ariel only because I didn't want to drill any holes in my bodywork. However on AM is another matter, but as I don't use that side of the radio it's no problem. There are no suppressors fitted anywhere. I know from past experience that a good earth is important mine is self earthing through the mounting but I ran another earth to the radio body to be sure. I have an FM transmitter in my Sat Nav which when sent through there's radio there's no stray static or any other noise picked up by the radio.Maybe just pure luck.
