Hi folks, hope you'll forgive any 2CV ignorance I might display in this post or any future posts but I'm fairly new to Deux Chevaux ownership. I've recently acquired a 1988 2CV from the widow of a neighbour, it was in use up until 2002 when the owner took it off the road - for a 'bit of restoration'. I think life got in the way and he'd passed on before finishing it. The driver's door had been removed (and the 7mm bolts lost). There is only one spacer plate in existence and marks on the hinge and door suggest that it had been fitted to the bottom hinge. However when fitted there the door closes at the top before the bottom, leaving the bottom trailing edge sticking out. Any ideas, before I start removing hinges from the body and risk completely losing the plot? Is there a fool proof method to getting a good door fit? And after that the choke knob that doesn't.....................? Many thanks in advance of any help |

Welcome Barrie J! Doors are a bit of a fine art, I'm afraid - they take endless adjustment to get right - the spacers often need re-positioning and also the actual hinges, where they attach to the body, need adjustment too. It often is just a case of trial and error until the sit well but unfortunately if the door has been blown open at some time in the past this often bends the bracket on the body and they will never then fit properly. |

The hinges are different top to bottom, so make sure they've been fitted the right way if they've been removed in the past. If the cars had sills at any point the doors may not shut onto them as they can often be fitted in the wrong position and welded in. Aside from that, careful adjustment is all there is, as frustrating as it can be. Doors that may be bent or twisted can be tweaked back into the right position if careful. |

Plenty of time and patience is really the only way to do it. It will take a good few attempts to get it right. |

Nelsthebass, Russell and Jamie W. Many thanks for your prompt help - I rather thought lot's of fiddling might be involved! I'll let you all know how I get on. Next to put some petrol in it and try and work out why the choke knob doesn't move! regards - Barrie J |

I'd disconnect the choke cable at the carb end and see if the linkage on the carb moves. |
