Post subject:  Carb adjustments

I am having some trouble getting the carb set up properly.
There are several questions that I would like answered.
1. Where does the electrical connection go?
2. I have blocked off the air outlet at the base of the carb. What is purpose of this.
3. There is a pump shown just below the top of the carb which has a lever actuated by the choke. What is proper position of this lever in relation to pump?
4. Where is the Air adjustment screw on this carb? I can only find the volume adjustment.
5 Finally, note that the Idle setting screw is all the way in. It wont idle any other way. Is it correct to have screw fully in?

Socarco,
first of all, why have you fitted a Visa carb onto a 602 engine?

Anyhow,
1. There should be a connection feeding 12 volts to the cut-off solenoid when the ignition is switched on, otherwise the idle circuit is deactivated.
That should also answer question 5. ;)

2. That's the vacuum take off point for a Visa ignition system, of no use on a standard 602 engine.

3. That's the 'choke pull off' device, which is designed to open the choke flap slightly once the engine has started.
Most of them have failed by now, so test it for air leaks.
If it's faulty, remove it and block up the vacuum drilling as well as the attachment threads.

4. Only the early versions of the 21-24 carb had an 'idling air adjustment' screw.
Afaik, they were not to be found on the 18-26 versions, nor on 21-26 carbs as fitted to Visa engines.

The fact that I have a Visa carb on a 602 engine is a measure of my ignorance of such matters.
To answer your question, It came on a spare engine I bought. Apparently engine and carb came from different cars.

I have checked the choke augmentor or whatever it is called and it seems to be in working order. i.e no leaks. I keep an eye on it.

According to your info, should I connect a 12 vdc feed from the ignition to the carb?.
How will that affect the idle set screw?

Hi Socarco,
since that device is a solenoid operated cut-off for the idle system, it needs to have 12 volts connected to it for the idle system to be operative.

As it is now, your idle system is 'closed for business'... :lol:

If it's broken, or you don't want to bother connecting a lead to it, it can be replaced with a standard idle jet from a 21-24 or 18-26 carb.
