Well, finally got the body back from being welded at the 2cv Workshop in Cornwall(and a mighty fine job too). So,put the engine in,dropped the body onto the Wheels Galv. chassis, and connected everything up.Turned the key and bugger me,it started and ran fine.No exhaust, bit noisey, but who cares,it runs.
Thought I'd check if its charging,no,its not.Stopped the engine to check alternator wiring.Had the 12v ign.feed on the wrong terminal.Had to take off the big blue wire.and this is where the trouble started. As I pulled it through,I forgot it was live and whamo, sparks and everything!!!
Now,as i was checking for a live off the ignition,I had left the ignition on,and now I have no spark. It has a Lumination system.Tried a new coil,no luck.
So,what do you think? Have I blown the box,or could it be something else. The car hasnt been used since 2003.
Any ideas?

check fuses first.

what is it "melt your loom week" or something?

Funny you should say that, the fuses are ok.What I did notice, was that I got a spark when I turned the ignition on and off. :o

Seems like you blow it!!!!!

Thinking how you could test things.

Isn't there a led or something at the luminition?

Isn't a fuse in the luminition or at the leeds going to it?? Check this first, it has to be there.

dave,
there's no fuse in the ignition system, nor is there an LED on the Lumenition box.

I don't quite understand what you mean by 'ignition feed', but if it's the heavy blue wire with a ring connector which is attached oo the alternator with a 6mm nut, that's the output from the alternator.
This is permanently live, via the connection to the +ve battery lead at the starter motor and shorting it out would only put the lead itself at risk.

The fact that there's an HT spark as you switch the ignition off suggests that the Lumenition is powering up OK...

As ken says the main unit seems to be powering up fingers crossed, so when you switch it off the coil field is collapsing causing a spark. Have a look at the trigger as its that that doesn't seem to be switching, you didnt knock something off in the panick? the 3 wire plug to the trigger?

The other thing is there is still a permanant live to the coil then you will get a spark as you switch off, but not as you switch on.

check that there is voltage on the brown or violet wire from the lumi box and that it goes off and on as the engine is turned over by hand.
fault finding on page 2 here

cant see how flashing the alternator output caused the death of the lumi.

Hi all.Good news,found the fault,
Sean, you hit the nail right smack bang on the head
In my panick, with sparks flying all over the carb,I pulled the blue wire out from the three pin plug
Put it back in and vroom, started and ran like a French sewing machine
So,finished wiring the battery,fitted exhaust.
Tommorow, bleed brakes, adjust handbrake. Then all I need to do is fit the rear lights, bumpers and brackets, rear wings, front wings, doors seats, bonnet, new nuts on rear hubs, head light bracket and headlights.Phew,so much to do,then MOT.
