Hi All,just fitted the engine back in me red spesh,and have noticed that the lower bolts holding the front engine mount brackets onto the engine(shallow headed bolts) are touching the chassis.Can't see how to correct this,except by bashing the chassis. Anyone else had tis problem

I'm struggling to visualise this, post a photo? This is what it should look like. This is older than your spesh, but the mounts are the same.

I think he's talking about the bolts that go into the crankcase hitting the the back of the front cross member. What chassis is it Dave? Some of the holes are slotted, although I can't remember which holes, or in which direction they are elongated, have you tried slackening every thing off and 'persuading' the engine backwards, Have a look at the gearbox mount too, check it's sitting right. Sorry if that's all obvious and you've tried it already. |

Dave then the engine needs to go back slightly have you replaced the gearbox mount? you havn't put that on back to front have you? bellhousing and engine studs all tight up against each other @ twofifty Im guessing the bolts are the 4 that hold the angle iron brackets to the cases edit great minds think alike ....and fools seldom differ

Does the gearslide still sit in the same place that it did before? The holes Joolz refers to are the ones in the front of the chassis and they are slotted to allow fore and aft movement, so with any luck you can slacken them off and move the engine back a bit. Check the gearbox mount as I'd guess it's being pulled forward or the box isn't mounted correctly in it. If the mounts are a bit bolloxed and collapsed then I guess they would allow the engine to sag on them a bit which would possibly make the problem worse. The only other thing I can think of is that the engine mounts bolt to the plate on the block and the cowling, and the holes in the plate are also slotted, if the cowling is too far back on those mounts the 11mm nuts holding the mount to the cowling and the plate can be slackened and adjustment made that way. It might also be worth checking the clearance between the fan and the mesh guard, as if the cowl is too far back then at high rpm the fan blades will pull forward and break off. The racers often space the guard out a bit to stop this. |

Thanks for your help guys.I have fitted new engine and gear box mounts. I didn't realise the gearbox mount could be fitted back to front  Will go and check it.Which way is the correct way to fit it The bolts are the ones that bolt into the engine and hold the mount itself. Now i will go and check the gearbox mount. |

the side with the 7mm holes that peak/protrude point forward the flatter side goes to the crosstube |

Dave, the more rounded part of the gearbox mount should face towards the bulkhead and if it is fitted back to front, that would be pulling the engine/gearbox unit too far back, so I doubt if that's your problem. Your best bet is to slacken the 4 x M7 nuts on the engine mounts inside the fan cowling as well as the 2 x M10 bolts through the front chassis crossmember, then use a pry bar to 'persuade' the engine and gearbox to move backwards. ken |

wish id taken a photo of the old gearbox mount before i fitted it on Thurs-defo a pointy side.  this is the rack side |
