Post Hazard lights not working
Hello
I have just failed an MOT due to hazard lights not working and indicator and hazard tell tales not working.
I have checked all fuses and bulbs and even tried a new hazard switch but still no joy.
The indicators themselves work fine.
Can anyone offer any advice please?

Thanks
James

Hmm...thats an annoying.

I assume having changed the switch, you have also made sure the wiring is OK.

I may be totally wrong and off mark here, but the aluminium relay thingy under the dash that causes the flashing (flasher unit) might be under more load when all lights are trying to flash and not just either side and therefore not playing the game for you.

Look forward to hearing the solution

Thanks for the reply.
I have checked the wiring in as much as looking to see that everything is connected and it does seem to be. I know the hazards used to work. I have replaced the cylindrical flasher unit on the steering column a while back because the indicators were faulty. I must admit that I may not have tried the hazards since then so perhaps there is a fault in the replacement unit i got??

If the indicators are working (with the exception of the tell tale) then I would doubt there's anything wrong with the flasher unit. As the indicators and hazards use different power sources, (the indicators are fed from the ignition switch, whereas the hazards use a permanent live) I would suggest that the hazards aren't getting any power.

With the ignition off, and the hazard switch on, check with a multi meter or test lamp, to see if you're getting any power at the black connection on the flasher relay (aluminium cylinder).

I'm going to suspect that the lack of indicator tell tale is a separate issue.

had a car a year or so back with a relay that looked like an original one and did just that, 3 lamps each side was fine, wired in an indicator tel tale and it died, stuck an original cartier on and all was well.

get a multimeter you cant really diagnose electical stuff without one they are about the same as a nice pint so no great loss

ill second the feed issues to the hazards

Seems that they can be had for the price of a bad pint too, how the hell they can make them and post them from china for £2.14 I don't know, surely they can't be any good.

I have bought a multimeter which cost about the price of 2 pints from your average Dorset pub and been checking everything I can think of but I will go back and check the flasher unit output.
What is a cartier? Is that a certain type of flasher unit that I would be better off with?
Thanks

Sean...the flasher unit replacement I bought looks like a silver cylinder which i think looks like the original. I see some places are selling a black rectangular box version. Do you know if i would be better with one of those?
I am wondering if it is something to do with the flasher unit as I am pretty sure the hazards and tell tales all used to work and I am not so sure that I have thought to properly check them all since replacing the flasher unit...

Does the interior light work? They are on the same circuit. Had a similar problem with mine, it was the yellow wire fuse contacts. I cleaned them off, didn't work, so took a small file to them and hey presto, they worked!
