OK...new topic....

THE HAYNES MANUAL !!!!!

love it or hate it ?

I quote :

Page 46....section 34, 25.....before starting the engine refer to section 36. and again the same on page 47...section 5.

.....its like the Bible !!!....or is it ?..too many verses and chapters ?


Who belives either ?......

and just to get this started properly.....what is is life really all about ....do we go so far and...........

Interesting if you look at page 129/130....to do this you need a slave...

For most people you can't do without it as there are no real alternatives. The Citroen workshop manual is way over what most people can deal with and I don't think is available any more.

I guess, if they didn't keep referring to topics already covered in other chapters, it really would be a huge tome like t'Bible :?: .

I have to say the 2CV Haynes looks pretty clear to me so far, tho' I've yet to tackle any large projects.

(I have a Haynes for my Zafira too, and that one is, quite simply, a complete b'st'rd. It turned a very simple task - replacing rear pads - into a fraught jobbie necessitating a cry for help on t'internet. A simple line; "The cutout on the piston MUST be aligned with the notch on the calliper" was (a) accompanied by a grainy B&W photo that showed neither, and (b) was the instruction given before the one about pushing the piston back. It is actually meant to be done afterwards... At times like that I could happily kill.)

I dont like Haynes workshop manuals much... I have two of them... 2cv and Bedford CF van. As I can say for 2cv manual, yes most of normal 2cv drivers dont nead much more than how to instal points and some minor how to work. But you can find that also in some old car books from 60 - 70 is. And all you need is to remember some numbers.

If you going to do some more repairs, definitely must use original Citroen books ... or use a friend with skils :D

And 2cv books are on net... like here ... http://www.agua.nu/ds-files/tony-jackson/2CV/ ... I dont know who is this guy but he has beautiful collection of PDF books.


As for the Bedford CF haynes... it is stupid book and I hate it. I use for my Bedy original Bedford books in English and German.

Haynes presumes a certain amount of knowledge on behalf of the reader. If you don't have that knowledge you're a bit screwed!

I remember:

Remove the cap from the brake fluid bleed nipple

Great - where's that then?

And for removing the vent flap:

Remove the nuts that hold the vent flap in place

Which neccessitated:
removing the dash trim
removing the demister tubes
removing the wiper motor removing the fly mesh

It fails to mention all the little things. It was next to useless when changing the king pins. This is why I really like step-by-step guides!

its ok to reference certain things from, various dimensions and settings etc but in todays world its just easier to ask 20 people who have done said job on a forum. Ive not got a manual for her 106 and if the job isnt obvious ive yet to google a problem and fail to find a solution.

Opps...

...sorry...had caps lock on and didnt realise !

Find it strange that one can attack a car with a few spanners and have it off its chassis, engine out and generally rip it apart wihout looking in a book or anything.

I must admit the interweb helps, like Russell I have just typed in certain "problems" and worked out answers. Also Haynes do give the info on numbers.
....do you have a certain forum in mind :lol: :lol:

I also finally got rid of an old washing machine and yet the Haynes washing machine manual kept it going for years.

There is one about "Man"....but I looked through it and it says stuff about getting fit and not drinking beer...didnt understand a word of that one.... :D

Next they will be bringing one out about how to survive earthquakes, run a coalition government and the best way to steal and cook next doors Guinea Pig .....backdoor foraging....yum yum !

Its all right- you won't do any serious damage following it.

they have srarted branching out in to coffee table books as many moderns are considered to have few "owner servicable parts" and therefore the DIY market at which it was originally aimed at has diminished

plus all the young people today are useless fekers who cant work out how to join two bits of plastic pipe under a bath in a week....grr
