call me a loser for asking this
but how do they weather over time,
i like the thought of it staying shiny for a while (will it if i look after it if i buy one?)

It's aluminium, which looks awesome for the first ten minutes after you polish it with Autosol (make sure it's Autosol, not the similarly named Anusol, they are quite different) but it will dull over time. You probably won't notice it unless you leave it for years between polishing. It'll look pretty good for a while, and it only takes two minutes to give it a buffing anyway, once every couple of months when you wash the car.

Due to oxidation, you can polish it like russ said, but personally i prefer mine looking a bit weathered.

I guess it can always be coated after a good polish with clear coatings designed for non-ferrous metals?
