Just swapped over the cylinder heads and manifold on my car. Which has got rid of all the leaks and blowing joints. Now you can hear a rattling noise. When the engine is reved up as the rev's drop back down at about half rev's there is a rattling/scrapeing sound. Like the cowlings are loose but its coming from around the bell housing clutch area. Any ideas????? :?:

Check either the heat exchanges or the disk coolers. The former becomes detached from the manifolds and can make a dreadful noise. The latter are hateful things, make a lot of noise when the come loose and will cut your hands with no warning at all.

No disk shrouds and heat exchangers are all tight and not rattling checked all the cowlings were tight and not vibrating to. Got dark so abandoned it for the night. Will have a look and see what else I can find tomorrow eve in the light definatly sounds like its coming from the clutch/bell housing. :(

Check that the rearmost bit of the cowling isnt touching the flywheel-they are pretty close on the NS cyl

You haven't dropped something into the back of the flywheel (engine side) by any chance?

So I've just found out whats making my phantom noise! The flap in the drivers side heat exchanger. Last night in my wisdom I just checked the exchangers them selfs were tight and not breaking free from the pipes.

Did I read somwhere on here that anit vibration/rattle springs should be fitted to the flaps in heat exchangers????

Nobody likes loose flaps!!!
