Post subject:  COLOUR RESTORER

I have today acquired an 85 2cv. The colour is butter milk(a kind of yellow)..............a really nice colour. The paintwork is somewhat faded but i know there is a princess underneath the patina. Can anyone reccommend a decent colour restorer? I have had such poor results from the common ones found in the usual outlets. Maybe someone knows of something that will bring this lovely colour to life. I don't mind if it's witches blood mixed with bulls semen as long as it works. Any help please ???????????????????

Farecla G3 is the best I've used. Don't waste time on t-cut or colour tinted polish.

Basically of course the colour restorers are just abrasive paste with in the case of the likes of T cut a bit of ammonia in it.

T cut should do the job, or have a hunt through the kitchen cumboards for a bottle of Brasso.

Paint factors will sell Farecla which is what paint shops use to cut back fresh paint. If there are any really bad areas you can use ultra fine wet or dry abrasive paper, 2000 grade is so fine it starts to leave a shine, 1000 and 1500 will remove the top layer of paint.

If you go that route you need to be extremely careful on edges of panels and the ridges on the bonnet. Cack handedness will be punished by breaking through. Then polish to a shine with brasso or T cut and then wax it. Coloured wax is a waste of time.

Thanks for those replies. I have often used t cut and find it a complete waste of time. Russ i checked out farecia's website and it could well be my answer.

Hardy,

As you are not far away, you could come down and I am sure Phil S will give you a bog brush and some pound shop left overs....

In fact Ive got five litres of Sandtext....thats the cheap name for Buttermilk....bit grainy, but "what the eye doesnt see, the chef gets away with".....only joking.....about the Sandtext...although has been done !!!

By the way O N i read in one of your postings about the Sopranos. Can't believe such an errudite man as you hasn't seen it.It is an American masterpiece ( like some of those 50s autos) of screen writing and and the writing is almost Shakespeareing. You MUST see it but start at the beggining and go through the series one by one. I got a feeling you will be hooked...i was.

The Sopranos: Completely agree; it should be compulsory that you watch it. It's just Shakespeare but with tacky 80s american cars and guns. Back on topic, I gave up polising because I'm down to the primer on the bootlid grooves :( Although I was using this stuff that they polish hearses with, if that makes any difference?
