now im aware that the 2cv isnt too bad on fuel, but i do quite a few miles in the old beast, and any increase on the range out of a tank would be a bonus! seeing as a tank can last me as little as 2 days sometimes! is there anything such a fititng dyane gear box, heavy / light flywheel that would improve it? i know a perfectly set up ignition system will give peak performance, to which i need to check the points and timing asap, when i get a chance, i know mods like fitting a dyane gear box is going to cost more than ill save over a long period of time, but at the end of the day id have a spare box anyway! i know weve touched on this subject before, but any suggestions would be greatful |

A light right foot and good road sense to minimize the use of brakes is probably the most effective. That's assuming, of course that the car is in good order. You beat me to it Sean! |

Interesting... I use my brakes a LOT... but never with the engine in gear, ie, I 'freewheel' a lot. I could never get my head round the idea of having the car in gear when I break... it seems counter productive. |

You'd fail a driving test for doing what you describe. Oh, and it's "brake". |

The accelerator pedal uses fuel. The brake pedal wastes fuel. |

toomany2cvs wrote: The accelerator pedal uses fuel. The brake pedal wastes fuel. Perfectly put. James may have been influenced by my talk of heavy flywheels etc but the fact is such added hardware doesn't reduce fuel consumption itself, but encourages a driving style that will. Therefore it's not the flywheel or the gearbox that will save lots of petrol, the only component that has the ability to do so is the nut behind the wheel. ![]() |
