Take heed of the correct advice already given on the other forum?

ken.

( 123's mention of a 'black' coil is intended to warn folk about making the mistake of using the physically similar 'brown' Visa coil with one of the basic 123 units. )

I think the first thing I would have done .... ...would be pick up a telephone and talk to some-one at ECAS about it ..... :|

I've got 123 and a harly-style coil (as I like to call it!) not sure if the coil was from Ecas, but they both work a treat on the van! (you should be able to see the coil on the car on pics in the scally rally thread)

If you look at the instruction on the 123 it'll give you an acceptable range of resistance for the primary winding on the coil. As long as the resistance is correct the 123 won't care what it is connected to.

I used an 123 ignition before I changed into the Visa system - captors, brown coil and electronic ignition.
Al I have to say about the 123 ignition with black coil is that it worked perfectly. However I wouldn´t get more speed, just better performances concerning starting the engine, iddle, etc

You won't get more speed out of a 123; I don't know how old your 123 is but the pre ignition of the last charges of 123 is simular or worse then an original 2cv ignition (due to warranty issues) is told to me. However you can fiddle a bit giving it a littlebit more pre ignition (turning it clockwise 2 or 3 mm) but as soon as your engine starts to pink, knock put it back as soon as you can, otherwise your engine will be destroit.

Do this only when you know what you are doing....

been looking into this as mine has a 123 on it and im not sure which version i have
the later ones will run a brown or black coil and the yellow one you mention is a direct replacement for the balck standard one
so you should be fine
if your worried get a multimeter and measure accross the primary
it should be around 3ohms-if it is then its ok
if its less then check with the shop you bought the 123 from to make sure its the later/newer version which will run a coil down to 1 ohm

only weird thng about my set up is the coils a brown one, which should in theory be a 1 ohm visa one
but it reads higher than that

Argentine standard coil, darker brown than the Visa type.
