More of a curiousity question really, but interested to find out what the letters denote after the words Weber 40 DCOE or DHLA or IDF??? Anybody give me a clue to what they mean and the difference say between a dcoe and a idf...?? |

The letters are acronyms for various things in Italian, 'Horizontal' and others I can't remember. |

I'm sure I knew, or had them written down somewhere, but I can't think where at the moment. I'm guessing a bit here but I'd say, D = twin choke, O = 'orizontal, A = coolant operated choke, E = electric choke, it must be on the web somewhere. |

ok thats sort of answers my question, so suppose I want to fit a couple onto a GS engine I would have to get an IDF or IDA weber as the others seem only to work hozinontal??!! |

The IDA and IDF are the high performance downdraft Weber, and are the vertical equivalents of the traditional DCOE and DHLA sidedrafts, (aka 'twin 40s') . In the days before EFI, they were pretty much de rigueur for high performance and race cars. Their defining feature is that they use one choke per cylinder, which seems to be the way to go for maximum power. I think the carbs Pete used were from an alfa 33, but how easy they'll be to find I don't know. You can buy them new of course if you've got £500 going spare. If it were me I'd be looking at bike carbs, most are sidedraft but there are some that are downdraft, or 45 degrees, Yamahas predominantly. |

Doppo Corpo Orizontale E (die cast, or so I understand ... lord knows what the Italian for this happens to be!) The Porsche flat 6 engine had a pair of triple throat downdraft Webers: dunno what the designation for those was. |
