how to describe it, well you can only hear it when you arent moving but when you turn the wheel there is a sraping noise in the steering at the top where it goes through the tube with the ignition on (trying to picture it best i can) and its like a scraping rubbing sound, i assume there is some sort of bush in there which has probably gone?

it doesnt bother me, but i like to make sure with things like steering as its important!!!

I wouldn't worry about that. I think they all do that if you turn the wheel while you're not moving.

No doubt someone will be along in a minute to tell us both that it's incredibly dangerous. :D

It sounds like it could be the steering lock "collar" rubbing on the ignition switch assembly?

My only concerm would be why has it started doing it...........

Pessimist, it'll be OK, 2CVs never bend their chassis...........

and if its on a good chassis could be bulkhead lower sagging as it rusts away.

if it only happens one way and not the other could be pinion bearing about to let go

or the cover for the steering lock took a knock and now touching the lock ring

Chassis good
It's defiantly both ways very quiet and subtle and it's in the tube at the top

My previous 2cv did it after a load of grinding and welding work , a quick squirt with some 3 in 1 down the top collar that the ignition switch hangs off soon sorted it .. it was just fine dust from all the work got in everywhere.

One of my old 2cvs did this - after the rack was reconditioned by Prof. Pembro. In this situation it was the plastic bush / bearing at the top of the steering column tube that was making the noise.
