Just been trying to work out why my 2cv wilk not run. As noted in my speedo cable thread, the car started but just died after a few seconds or so. If i disconnect the fuel line before the pump i get a good flow of fuel siphoning out. I thought it might be a blockage in the pump, but i could blow air through the pump to the disconnected pump to carb pipe. However, no amount of engine turning over will get petrol through to the carb. I hace driven about fifty miles since i got the car taxed, the pump was renewed wheb i changed pistons, rings and barrels. So the pump has run for about one hour in total.
has my pump failed?

Thanks, ben

ben,
it seems there have been some new pumps failing after a very short period of use.
I dismantled one which I'd replaced for a customer and found that the plastic discs in the valves were prone to sticking in the 'open' position... :(

There's been some discussion about this on 2CVGB's forum, I think.

Quick update, the replacement pump from Roy arrived today so I'll be fitting that when I can persuade the kids to sleep at night.

Does anyone know the make of the faulty fuel pumps?

Dont't know the make of the pump that is being mentioned already. But last year I brought a First Line pump which fitted but the outlet side was badly designed and made the rubber hose run so it touched the exhaust
manifold so I promptly removed it and returned it for a refund. I wwould steer clear of first line pumps.

What about Valeo pumps.Does anyone know how they perform?

Let me check the replacement, and the make of the one on the engine and get back to you. I hasten to add that the pump issue hasn't been diagnosed just yet, so could be a one-off failure or user error.
