is a real pita! The car stopped reporting the current speed to me, so I ordered a few bits from ECAS, including a new cable.

Of course, I took the old one out and it hasn't snapped...

fit the new one anyway, and reverse the car onto the road. result= splutter and die. Nothing would get it going again - looks like no fuel reaching the carb, even though there's plenty in the tank. Fuel feed to the pump flows nicely, nothing out the other side of the pump :( Pump is brand new too...

I did find out why the dash lights don't work anymore though - 10A fuse on bulkhead with green connectors is blown. So another bit of faultfinding for me at the weekend.

My speedo cable kept falling off the back of the speedo recently. I don't really understand why, as nothing seemed to be wrong with it. But I've now replaced it with a spare one I had and all seems well again.

yeah, that was the first place I checked, but it all seemed tightly fitted. I'm hoping that the mechanism in the speedo itself hasn't broken....

Sorry, I should have said that it as the inner that was falling off/out of the back of the speedo, even though the outer was still attached properly.

I had this problem to it was as if the outter was to long allowing the inner cable to jump out of its square by not allowing it to sit far enough in the speedo. My fix was the same and to just bung on another cable that I had.

Thanks for the replies. I've fitted the new cable and i had a speed reading for a good 1/4 of a mile before it dropped to zero again. The car had sat for five years or so, quite a while without a windscreen, so I'm thinking that the speedo is too stiff, maybe the internals are seizing.? Anyone have a known good club dash that they'd like to sell?

I have a known good one although you'd probably want to swap the face as it's in kph.

If you want it, it's yours. Gratis.

Edit: The odometer will also be in km too thinking about it but the offer's there if you want to have a go with it?
