Post subject:  sidelight issues

The wife informed me that the dash light wasn't working on the 2cv( i have retro fitted a club dash) so i whips the dash off to change the bulb, bulb was fine. I then noticed the sidelights wern't working, bulbs are ok. so I'm assuming they are linked? Headlights on dipped and main are fine. I have cleaned every possible connection there is and checked all the fuses, it is a single fusebox car with four fuses and everything else works fine, but no sidelights.
I did notice however that with the headlights turned on, if I remove the main feed bullet connector to the drivers side headlight that is on the goalposts it does not completely extinguish but glows slightly as does the side light. So i guess I have an earth problem? Does anyone know whereabouts the earth points for the main headlights are or the sidelights for that matter, as i thought i'd covered every connection but obviously not.

cheers

How about the rear lights?
If they're working, that means the problem is not at the switch, but in the front loom.
Maybe worth checking at the switch anyway, using a voltmeter...

Also check that the earth wire for the loom is making good contact where it's fastened to that stud on the bulkhead, next to where the driver's side demister passes through.
That connection acts as the earth for certain parts of the front loom, including the lights and voltage regulator.
It's not unknown for a 'restorer' to paint it, which rather compromises its original purpose.

Cheers Ken, went out late last night and checked the rear lights :oops:no worky  so i'll have a fiddle with the switch today, its easier than chasing wiring now that you've pinpointed the problem.
