Post subject: | The affects of ethanol |
Twice now in a year Ive had my avion stop with the fuel filter and line clogged with what looks like bluish instant gasket cement ..Both times i have dropped the tank and flushed it out.The first time I thought some one may have been over enthusiastic with glue on the fuel sender housing but after the second time I suspect this ethanol is attacking the fuel tank which is made of a kind of plastic.. Any one else had similar problems |

nope use the original 2cv tank in an original 2cv ![]() whats the fuel line is it new "multifuel" type ? not familiar with Avion tank is it the same colour as the contaminating stuff? is there any evidence that the sender has been "Hylomared" to death? methanol tends to draw the plasticizers out of flexible stuff and make it go brittle especially citroen rubber fuel line and may dissolve some of the petroleum resistant goos also will attack brass and some alloys IIRC is the main fuel pipe copper by any chance or any part of the tank feed, sender or breather? as the methanol( and the captured atmospheric moisture) could be causing oxidation of the copper(verdigris)?
