What's it like owning and driving a sidewinder? How does the 1015 engine hold up? Is it expensive in terms of fuel, maintenance? Is it a hit on insurance premiums? Thoughts please ![]() |

I owned a 1300 engine with plans to fit it to my clelste, never had it running but I belive citronet had parts?? Anyway I got a few quotes for insurance- a lot didn't want to insure me, others wanted just under a grand more! Mind I was about 17-18 at the time... |

Back in about 1985 Richard Dalton built a GS1300 + 5 speed box into an Acadiane on a lengthened Ami Super chassis, we did a European tour in it. It was, of course, not a sidewinder since that was the name of a project of 'Two Horse Stables' in Skipton. So, what we got was the strength & stability of the far stronger springs & anti roll bars (both) and the easy availability at the time of real Boge Ami Super shocks. The vehicle was reliable but suffered from cooling problems (sorted reasonably easily) and lack of lube to 5th gear. Driving was superb, quiet, fast and a real q-car, at its greatest fun in France where the locals knew that Acadianes simply did not do 160kmh. I can't imagine taking on the project now, simply because of donor availability, all was easy to obtain in those times. |

Don't you want to sit at 95mph up the chuff of all those twats in BMW's who tailgate you when you dare enter the outside lane? Don't you think it'd be quite a chuckle to do second gear rolling burnouts? Do you not like the idea of a car that looks slow but actually goes really rather fast? My/Spanners old sidewinder was a great laugh. |
